SKINNER'S ROCKHOUSE COFFEE
The Rockhouse was built circa 1872
by
the Burgess family.
After World War I, it was purchased by
Tom and Violet (Glover) Skinner.
Tom was the
son of Silas "Sam" Skinner
who built the Skinner Toll Road
to Silver City.
Tom and Violet had four
children:
Tom, Gard, Jim and Rae.
In the 1920's,
the family moved from the Rockhouse
to the white cracker
box house next door.
Family, friends, ranch hands and miners
lived in the Rockhouse for most
of the 20th
century.
In 1990,
Gard and Virginia Skinner's children,
Gard Jr., Steve, Rick, Libby, David
and Jon
bought the property.
In 2000,
Steve and David restored the building
and converted it
into Skinner's
Rockhouse Coffee.
Its purpose is to provide an oasis
for travelers and locals
and to preserve the rich heritage
of Jordan Valley, Oregon.

United Methodist Church
Jordan Valley Preschool Program
There is a Fall and a
Spring Session, each three months long. The preschool program is located in the United Methodist Church.
The fall session is September through November, and the spring session is March through May.
The class begins at 8 o clock in the morning and ends at 11:30 am, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children must be 4 years old
by August 31st to attend. Space is limited, so you must call to sign your child up. The cost is pending.
Children learn social skills as well as letter and number recognition. We work on fine motor
skills, like cutting, gluing, painting, coloring and writing their names. We play games, do puzzles, read stories, grow plants,
and learn songs. It is a fun learning environment, with lots of room to play outside on the swings, slide, and merry-go-round.
We enjoy feeding the birds and watching the deer and rabbits. There is plenty to discover as they learn to play with each
other.
The preschool is run by local, Sheila Quintero, who enjoys capitalizing on teachable moments and helping
children get the most out of every learning opportunity. She believes, if you read to a child daily, that
child will want to learn how to read. She reinforces the golden rule, treat others the way you want
to be treated. She hopes to encourage children to learn to read and treat others with love and respect. You may contact
